TEAM REMBRANDTS QUALIFIES FOR THE WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS IN DETROIT (USA)

Written by participant: Nick van de Ven

For the past few weeks I, Nick van de Ven, have been competing with Team Rembrandts in America. The 6 weeks prior to this trip, Team Rembrandts has built a robot to participate in the FIRST Robotics Competition. This is a robot competition where game elements change every year. The game element of this year were square crates from about 30cm. The challenge was to place these crates at different heights in scales, when the scales tilted in the direction of your team you earned points per second. The team with the most points wins in the end.

In America we have participated in 2 matches with our robot called “Metric”. The first match was during the Palmetto Regional. Here we spent a lot of time optimizing the robot. Eventually we made it to the quarter-finals. However, the team has managed to obtain the Chairman's Award here. This is the most prestigious award that can be achieved, and is about more than just building robots. In this way, the team was honored and it helped to inspire young people and their environment for technology.

The second week we played the Orlando Regional. With the experience of the first week, this competition went much better. The team even managed to win the Regional for the second year in a row.

During the matches I was in the pit area. Here the robot was tinkered. Things were adjusted, improved and the robot was prepared for the next game. This was hard work, but it was cool to do. Best was to see the robot you worked on doing so well on the field during this big event.

Thanks to this result, Team Rembrandts has qualified for the World Championships which will take place from April 25th-28th. Team Rembrandts is therefore more than happy that they have been able to achieve a good result thanks to the partnership with Vetipak.
